Kashmir Solidarity day is being oberserved on 5th and 7th of
February 2010 in Oslo, the Norwegian capital. Kashmir
Solidarity Day has been celebrated on 5 February each year
since 1990 as a day of protest against Indian control of
part of Kashmir. It was announced for the first time in
1970s by Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, then Prime Minister of
Pakistan to express solidarity of Pakistan with the
Kashmiris but once again it was formally declared the
national holiday in Pakistan during Benazir Bhutto, then
Prime Minister of Pakistan in 1990 to show moral and
political support of the country with the people of Kashmir.
This day is a symbol of great support, both moral and
diplomatic by Pakistan to the Kashmiris to keep up the
tempo of struggle for freedom and right of self
determination in Jammu and Kashmir.
There is a ceremony on Feb 05 (Friday) by the Islamic
Cultural Centre Oslo where the spiritual leader of the
Centre, Maulana Mehboob Ur Rehman would highlight the
atrocities of Indian forces against the innocent kashmiris.
There is an other programme in the context of the solidarity
day on Feb 7, 2010 in Oslo. The former Prime Minister of
Azad Kashmir Barrister Sultan Mahmood Choudry is to be Chief
Guest of the programme. He is scheduled to visit Norway on
this occasion. Barrister Sultan will also meet higher
officials in Norwegian ministry of foreign affairs and
representatives from Norwegian Parliament.
According to the PR issued by newly emerging Kahsmir Group
in Norway namely Kashmir European Alliance, among others
distinguished guests who will likely be participating in
Kashmir solidarity day includes ambassador of Pakistan Mr.
Rabnawaz Khan, Welfare Attaché Mr. Sheikh Sheraz Ahamed,
deputy speaker Norwegian Parliament Mr. Akhtar Choudry,
former member of Norwegian Parliament Mr. Shabaz Tariq and
many other political, social and religious personalities are
also expected to attend the gathering.
In the press release, it has also been told that Kashmir
European Alliance is a movement aimed at highlighting
Kashmir issue in Europe and across the world with a new
approach and dedication. There have been other Kashmiri
organizations working around the world and been highlighting
the Kashmir issue and Kashmir European Alliance will in
collaboration with all those organizations evolve strategies
to make a wake up call for global piece, respect for human
rights and timely solutions to world’s most dangerous
conflict in Kashmir.
