Oslo, Feb 07, 2010 – A number of Muslims in Norway called
for apology by Oslo based Daily Dagbladet for publishing a
controversial caricature of Prophet of Islam (PBUH) on its
front page.
The debate on the issue began last Wednesday since the
newspaper published a controversial caricature of Prophet of
Islam as indentifying that it was one of the drawings
appeared on web pages linked with the face book of Norwegian
secret police.
Mr.Shafqat Ali Khan, a Norwegian Muslim Businessman said,
the newspaper staff responsible for the publishing the
deplorable drawing should excuse from the Muslims. He said,
the newspaper insulted the Islam, Muslims and their prophet
by printing the blasphemous cartoon of our beloved prophet.
He said, peaceful complain is our democratic rights and we
strongly protest over the shameful act of the newspaper.
On other hand, a group of the Norwegian Pakistanis gathered
at a community Centre at Gronnerlukka, Oslo passed a
resolution for condemnation of the publishing insulting
drawing of the Prophet. They said, we can not accept such
disgraceful acts. The resolution also appreciated the action
of PST for removing the caricatures from its face book's
pages.
Mufti Zubair Tabaasam, the religious leader based in Norway
while addressing a public meeting at Idara Minhajul Quran
Oslo said, Norway as whole a peaceful country but some of
the elements here test tolerance of the Muslims by damaging
our spirit. He requested the peaceful people and government
of Norway to take necessary steps against the people those
try to provoke the Muslims.
On other hand, about 1000 Muslim
taxi drivers in Oslo held strike for two hours last night to
record their protest against the printing of the
controversial caricature in daily Dagbladet.
The action started from 2'clock to four o'clock on Friday
night, the pick business hours for the taxi trader in Oslo.
Norwegian media reported, a thousand taxi drivers took part
in the action as the protest against the Dagbladet as it
published the drawing on its front page Wednesday.
The Muslim taxi drivers in the capital reacts strongly to
the paper's reproduction of the drawing.
- It is the abuse of freedom of speech and we are against
the abusive material published in the newspaper against our
prophet, "the drivers said.
